For the first time in a long time, the Pulaski County High School Golf Team has earned Region Gold along with top honors for their head coach.
With a final team score of 303, the Cougars earned the 2024 Class 3, Region D Championship. Additionally, Head Coach Mark Hanks was named the Region Coach of the Year.
Lord Botetourt finished second with a score of 309. Hidden Valley was third at 317. Cave Spring and Carroll County each recorded scores of 319. William Byrd and Abingdon scored 323 each. Northside had a 325, followed by Christiansburg (328), Magna Vista (341), Tunstall (341), Staunton River (381) and Bassett (399).
The win will send the Cougars to the State finals for the first time in 22 years. That match will take place October 15 at Heritage Oaks Golf Course in Harrisonburg.
Individually, the Cougars put in a solid performance as well. Evan Singleton led the way with a low score of 73. Will Rackaway was close on his heels with a 74. Keaton Jones and Mikey Gonzalez each turned in a score of 78. Thatcher Singleton earned a score of 80 and Boone Blevins recorded a 90.
