Students from the Pulaski County High School Career and Technical Education (CTE) center Culinary Arts Program were recognized Wednesday as they received national certification through a partnership with the Education Foundation of the National Restaurant Association.
Students from the class, led by Mrs. Laura Norris, were trained and tested for certification through the ServeSafe Manager Course. The course offers students training and instruction about food safety concepts such as sanitation, food storage, safety regulations, pest management, and safe food handling practices. Additionally, the ServSafe Manager Certification verifies that a manager or person-in-charge has sufficient food safety knowledge to protect the public from food-borne illness. Individuals that successfully pass the 90-question, multiple-choice exam will receive a ServSafe Manager Certification and wallet card.
As a group, 11 students from the class passed the test and received their national certification. Those students are Amelia Alderman, Tyler Arnold, Jacob Bales, Brittany Cole, Hailey Cole, Tre Hancock, Ivy Jamerson, Landace Lineberry, Molly Parsell, Layne Sage, and Richard Warden.
These students are a part of the Culinary Arts II class. Students in the Culinary Arts I class have the opportunity to take the ServeSafe Food Handler Certification Course.
In order to operate a food service business in Virginia, owners must have a ServeSafe Manager present in the restaurant.
