Critzer Elementary School will bid farewell to assistant principal Mrs. Sarah Reid at the end of the school year, but those same students will have the chance to benefit from her years of experience again quickly, as she has been appointed as a new assistant principal at Pulaski County Middle School.
Mrs. Reid is a 1993 graduate of Pymatuning High School in Ashtabula County, located in northeastern Ohio. She graduated from Muskingum College (University) with a BA in Spanish, German, and History in 1997. She earned an MS in Educational Leadership from Radford University in 2005. She is currently working toward her Doctorate, also at Radford University.
“After graduating from Muskingum, I worked in business and international business with my languages and accounting skills,” Mrs. Reid said. “A mission trip to Oak Hill, West Virginia, changed my life and invisible threads of faith weaved a path for me to follow to Southwest Virginia. I was contacted by Tazewell County Public School to serve as a Spanish teacher and arrived in Virginia homeless in August, 1999. Throughout my career I have served as a Spanish teacher and coach at Pocahontas High School and Graham High School (six years), an assistant principal at Richlands Middle School (one year), principal of North Tazewell Elementary (five years), principal of Tazewell Middle School (two years), Spanish teacher at Graham Middle School and Spanish teacher and coach at Pulaski County High School (eight years). My summer jobs have included teaching English to Hispanic baseball players for the Toronto Blue Jay and New York Yankees. My husband Rodney and I moved to Draper in Pulaski County in 2016. I served as an assistant principal at Pulaski County Middle School in 2022-23 before coming to Critzer. In all, 25 years of experience in education, 15 in the classroom and 10 total as an administrator.”
As a couple, Sarah and Rodney Reid have an incredible history in education.
“My husband, Rodney, and I have served together as teachers, coaches and administrators in Tazewell County and we are ecstatic to serve the children of Pulaski County as well,” she said. “I will always credit God for where He places me. I enjoy laughing, working in our yard with flowers, having tea with our neighbor, taking walks on the NRV Trail, reading great books, playing piano, kayaking, fishing and spending time with our church family and our dog Jack.”
Mrs. Reid is set to assume her new role at PCMS July 1, 2024. Her husband will also be assuming a new role as an assistant principal at the high school at that time. She is excited for the new roles they each will have.
“I am humbled and blessed to be returning to our Pulaski County Middle School,” she said. “I believe in our middle school. I am actively working on how we as a community can raise the bar of excellence for our middle school students as part of my dissertation of practice. I bring complimentary pieces of expertise in school improvement, professional development and data analysis to a powerhouse administrative team with Mrs. Becky Blevins, Mr. John Jewell and Mr. Ken Arnold, as well as a hard-working middle school staff. I am extremely excited to be a part of the culture of our Cougar community and hope to be a positive cheerleader and catalyst for growth for our staff and students. I look forward to learning alongside them.”
