The Pulaski County Middle School track and field team hit the road Wednesday for a quad meet with Andrew Lewis, Clifton, and Cave Spring. The end result was a first-place finish for the Lady Cougars and second place for the Cougars.
For the Lady Cougars, the first-place finish is a sign of great things to come. Pulaski County earned 66 points to take the top spot. Andrew Lewis scored 57 points. Clifton Middle had 50 points and Cave Spring earned 46 points.
The Lady Cougars earned their win with top-five finishes in 14 events.
Olivia King took first place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 19.65. Hailey Ferguson was third (21.38), and Maidson O’Dell was fifth (21.71).
Raiven Hughes took second in the 100-meter with a time of 13.72. Ellie Russell was fifth at 14.09.
Dani Carroll took third in the 1,600-meter race with a time of 6:33.7. Nina Bucey-Card was fifth with a time of 6:35.2.
Doyanna Lewis took second in the 400-meter race with a time of 73.7.
Holli Griffin took first in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 59.4. Olivia King was second at 62.2.
Dani Carroll was second in the 800-meter at 2:57.1. Ellie Russell was fourth in the 200-meter race with a time of 29.68.
Hailey Ferguson earned fourth place in the shot put with a throw of 25’6”.
Raiven Hughes was first in the long jump with her 12’9” effort. Hughes also took first place in the triple jump at 28’4”, and second place in the high jump with a 4’2” leap. Doyonna Lewis also hit 4’2” but finished third. Karoline Peaslee hit the 4’ mark to reach fifth place in the high jump.
The 3,200-meter relay team of Nina Bucey-Card, Taylor Freeman, Chloe Duncan, and Dani Carroll finished third with a time of 12:38. The 400-meter relay team of Olivia King, Ellie Russell, Ryleigh Hill, and Ravien Hughes finished third with a time of 58.56.
For the boys, the Cougars finished in second place with 60 points. Andrew Lewis wrapped up first place with 117 points. Cave Spring was third with 31 and Clifton was fourth with 20 points.
Individually, several Pulaski County athletes finished in the top five in events to score points for the Cougars.
Anius Slaughter swept the throwing events with first place in the shot put throw (39’8”) and first place in the discus (142’6”).
Andrew Allen took second in the 110-hurdles (20.0), 3rd in the 300-hurdles (48.62), second in the tiple jump (33’0”), and third in the high jump (5’2”).
Tanner Toney took first place in the long jump (18’2”), third in the 100-meter (11.75), and third in the 200-meter (25.23).
Landon Clark took fourth place in the 1,600-meter race with a time of 5:59.9. Aiden Barrett was third in the 400-meter at 60.91. Chris Hayden was third in the discus throw with a 101’5” toss.
The 3,200-relay team of Aiden Barrett, Carter Duran, Landon Clark, and Miguel Sanchez finished in first place by a large margin, finishing in a time of 10:58.
The 4 x 100-meter relay team of Brock Schneider, Tanner Toney, Brayden Snell, and Jayden Avalies finished in second place with a time of 51.41.
The 4 x 400-meter relay team of Landon Clark, Miguel Sanchez, Aiden Barrett, and Andrew Allen finished in second place with a time of 4:27.8.
