The Pulaski County Middle School volleyball team raised its record to 3-0 on the season after knocking off a visiting Christiansburg squad, 25-23, 25-10.
In the opening contest, Ainsley Vaughan led the Cougars from behind the service line, going 6-for-6. Bailey Viars was 5-for-5, Jagger Davis 5-for-6 and Jayden Brown 2-for-2.
Pulaski County recorded 11 hits, led by Natalie Kinder with four. Viars, Davis, and Brown each added two, and Gracie Painter one. Vaughan and Ryleigh Dean teamed for 10 assists. Viars, Vaughan and Davis were the top passers in a game that saw Cougars have to claw their way back from being down by four late in the set. The Cougars managed to tie things up at 22-22 and again at 23-23, before scoring the final two points for the win.
Vaughan rolled off 15 serves, going 15-for-15, to open game two. Vaughan and Dean combined forces for 12 assists and three tips. Viars connected on six hits, Davis chipped in three, Kinder two, and Bethenny King one. Davis, King and Sandy Santos were the top passers.
The Cougars played two extra games, dropping the first 11-15 and the second 10-15.
In the first one, Devae Carter went 5-for-5 from the service line, while Maddie Rinehardt and Aundrea Stump were both 2-for-2. Madison Akers had one hit and Adalyn Arnold one assist. Kaya Harriman, Rinehardt and Harriman were the top passers.
In the second contest, Carter was 5-for-5 from behind the line, while Rinehardt was 3-for-3. Isabella Osborne and Harriman each had a hit and Rinehardt recorded the assist.
The Cougars will travel to Blacksburg on Tuesday.
