Pulaski County Middle School’s winning streak came to an end on Tuesday as the Cougar spikers fell to Christiansburg on the road. The Cougars defeated the Blue Demons in their first meeting of the season, but on this night, unforced errors cost the Cougars. Pulaski County fell 13-25, 25-12, 7-15 for their first loss of the season. The Cougars’ record is now 5-1.
In the opening contest, the game was tied at 5-5, but from that point on, Christiansburg held at least a small advantage the rest of the game. PCMS managed to collect 11 hits with Bailey Viars recording seven of those hits. Jagger Davis added two, and Gracie Painter and Natalie Kinder each added one. The service line was not as kind as usual to the Cougars as Viars posted a 4-for-5 performance, Painter was 2-for-2, Davis 2-for-3, Ainsley Vaughan 1-for-2, and Ryleigh Dean, Jayden Brown and Sandy Santos were both 1-for-1. Dean and Vaughan combined for eight assists and four tips. The top passers were Davis and Painter.
Things improved for the Cougars in the second game as Viars connected on 15-of-16 of her serves. Vaughan was 2-for-2, Painter 1-for-2, and Davis, Dean and Santos were all 1-for-1. Dean and Vaughan teamed for six assists and the top passers were Vaughan and Davis.
With the momentum swing in game two, the Cougars looked to continue their winning streak, but it was not be on this night. Although the Cougars were perfect from the serving line, they could not get their offense going and seemed out of sync. Davis led the team with two hits and Viars added one.
In the extra game, Brown went 6-for-6 from the service line, Kaya Harriman was 3-for-4, Maddie Rinehardt 2-for-2, and Isabella Osborne 2-for-3. Davae Carter and Osborne each tallied one hit and Carter was the top passer.
