It wasn’t the spectacular match that the Andrew Lewis match turned out to be, but the Pulaski County Middle School volleyball team raised its record to 7-1 on the season this past week. The Cougar spikers downed a visiting Floyd team, 25-17,25-19.
The Cougars trailed early, but finally took control of the match behind good serving. Jagger Davis was 12-for-13 from behind the line and Ainsley Vaughan was 5-for-5. Bailey Viars finished 3-for-3, and Ryleigh Dean, Sandy Santos and Jayden Brown were all 1-for-1.
Gracie Painter and Natalie Kinder each tallied three hits for the Cougars and Vaughan added one. Vaughan and Dean teamed for five assists. Top passers were Davis and Painter.
In game two, things didn’t go as well for PCMS. The Cougars missed five serves in this game. They were down 4-7 early in the contest, but rallied back to tie things at 9-9. The game got tight again late, when the Cougar lead was just one, 19-18. However, the Cougars held steady, allowing Floyd just one more point.
Dean posted a 7-for-8 performance from behind the service line, while Vaughan was 4-for-5, Davis 3-for-3, Viars 2-for-3, Brown 2-for-2, and Santos 1-for-2.
Vaughan and Dean combined forces for five tips and eight assists as the Cougars connected on nine hits. Davis and Viars each had four, and Painter one.
The Cougars split the extra games with Floyd. In the first game, Pulaski County lost 11-15, but won the second, 15-11.
In the first one, Bethenny King, Devae Carter and Adalyn Arnold were all 2-for-2 from the service line. Maddie Rinehardt was 2-for-3, and Isabella Osborne 1-for-1. Madison Akers recorded the Cougars’ only hit and Rinehardt earned the assist. Akers was the top passer.
In game two, Akers was 4-for-5 from the service line, Rinehardt 3-for-3, and Arnold 2-for-2. Carter had one hit and Arnold got the assist. Rinehardt was the top passer.
The Cougars will travel to Carroll County on Tuesday for their next match.
