The Pulaski County Middle School volleyball team is now 9-1 on the season after the Cougar spikers downed a visiting Scott Memorial squad 25-7, 25-11 on Monday evening in the PCMS gym.
The Cougars were without three key players in this match, including one of their starting setters and two hitters, but the team stepped up and claimed the win.
In the opening contest, the Cougars didn’t miss a single serve, led by Ryleigh Dean with an 8-for-8 performance from behind the line. Jagger Davis and Bailey Viars were both 6-for-6 and Maddie Rinehardt 2-for-2.
Davis and Natalie Kinder each collected three hits, Viars added two and Gracie Painter one for Pulaski County.
Dean and Rinehardt combined for seven assists and two tips. Davis, Dean, Rinehardt and Kinder were the top passers.
Davis turned in a 13-for-13 performance to lead the Cougars from behind the service line in game two. Rinehardt, and Sandy Santos were both 2-for-2, Viars and Isobella Osborne were both 2-for-3, and Dean was 1-for-1.
Kinder connected on three hits, Painter added two, and Davis one for PCMS. Dean and Rinehardt teamed for six assists, while the top passer was Viars.
In the extra game, the Cougars won 25-20.
Madison Akers paced the Cougars from the service line with a 9-for-10 performance. Rinehardt was 5-for-5, Adalyn Arnold was 2-for-2, Osborne 2-for-3, Aundrea Stump 1-for-2 and Devae Carter and Kaya Harriman were both 1-for-1. Arnold and Rinehardt each recorded an assist with Akers, Carter and Stump each notching one hit.
The Cougars were scheduled to host Blacksburg on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
